Upgrading from ShipRush v3 Pro to v6 Pro

If ShipRush v4 or v5 (any carrier) is already installed side-by side with v3 Pro, read this first.

If you use a custom integration with ShipRush (aka ShipRush SDK), contact your developer before installing ShipRush v6 Pro. The integration may require an update to work with v6 Pro.

If your ShipRush v3 system tenders errors of any kind when End of Day is processed please STOP. Contact Z-Firm Technical Support to get these issues resolved before upgrading to v6.

ShipRush v3 serial numbers do not work in newer versions of ShipRush. Please contact Z-Firm Customer Service to request the serial number you need.

ShipRush Pro runs on only one PC

If you run ShipRush v3 Pro on a single PC, use this five-step process:

  1. Run End of Day in ShipRush v3   (If there are any errors, please stop and call Z-Firm Technical Support)

  2. Turn off anti-virus software

  3. Make a ShipRush v3 State backup

  4. Run the ShipRush v6 installer and complete the wizard

  5. Do a single test shipment and End of Day

  6. Remove the ShipRush v3 icon

Done!

Remember to turn off all anti-virus software prior to running the ShipRush v6 upgrade.

Z-Firm Tech Support can upgrade your ShipRush Pro system for you! Schedule an appointment in advance and leave the upgrade to the pros! There is a fee per-PC. Contact Z-Firm Customer Service to request an upgrade appointment.

ShipRush Pro is on multiple PCs

For most businesses, ShipRush is an important production system. So it is prudent to prepare properly for the upgrade. Preparation has three goals:

  1. Ensure that the upgrade goes smoothly

  2. Prepare to roll back to v3 in case something goes wrong with the upgrade

  3. Understand technically what is going on behind the scenes

Before Upgrading to v6:

Identify the PC that is the ShipRush v3 'server' system. This is the PC that has the "Z-Firm ShipRush v3" service present:

Remember to turn off all anti-virus software prior to running the ShipRush v6 upgrade.

This server PC will be upgraded first. On this system, take these steps:

  1. Process End of Day

  2. Ensure that the ShipRush program has been closed on all workstations.

  3. Make a ShipRush v3 State backup

  4. Exit the ShipRush program on this system (the "server")

  5. Turn off anti virus software (until after the whole process is done)

  6. Identify the workstations that will need to be upgraded.

Now run the ShipRush v6 installer (the file downloaded from www.zfirm.com). Select the upgrade option in the wizard.

After the upgrade there are these steps:

  1. Do a single shipment and End of Day in ShipRush v6 to confirm proper operation.

  2. Configure printers as needed in ShipRush v6

  3. Install ShipRush v6 on workstations. During the wizard, direct ShipRush to ShipRush 'server' PC (the first system that was upgraded -- the PC that has the Z-Firm ShipRush v6 service)

  4. Remove the ShipRush v3 icon wherever it appears (ShipRush v3 will not function at this point, so remove the icon before users try it and get an error)

Technical Details of the ShipRush v3 to v6 Migration (Optional Reading)

ShipRush v3 Pro has three main components:

ShipRush v6 Pro has a slightly different list:

To make the database multi-user, simply direct workstation PC's to the ShipRush 'server' PC name.

After upgrading to ShipRush v6, the MSDE service ("MSSQL$SHIPRUSH3") will still be present. It need not be uninstalled. The best path is to simply go into the service manager, stop the service, and set the startup to Disabled. In this state it is completely disabled and is not using any system resources (other than a bit of disk space).

The purpose of the upgrade process is to migrate all your data and UPS account information. It is, of course, possible to simply uninstall ShipRush v3 Pro and to then install a fresh copy of ShipRush v6. (Be sure to follow the knowledge base article on how to completely remove ShipRush v3 Pro prior to installing v6).
