Brooktrout: TR114 & Old Style
TruFax Installation
Note: Only
the OmniRush driver kit may be used with OmniRush. No
other Brooktrout drivers should be present on the OmniRush Server PC.
Never use
any driver installer other than the OmniRush driver installer.
Never use a Brooktrout driver
kit from Brooktrout or any other source. It will not
work, and will make a mess that must be resolved before the correct drivers
can be installed. If
such drivers are on the system, remove them according to the corresponding
documentation. Then
reboot the system, and continue with these installation steps.
TR114 boards
are full-length PCI boards. They
require a PC chassis that has room for a full-length board, and excellent
airflow over the boards for cooling. Generally this means that a server-class
PC must be used (which is not necessarily expensive... the Dell 400SC
/ 420 SC models are cheaper than many desktops).
Have a TruFax? Is it Old
Style or New Style? These steps are for Old Style ONLY
Steps for PCI users on Windows 2003 Server:
(The OmniRush Server software may be installed before or after installing the board in the PC)
Install the board(s) in the PC
Boot up the system. Windows should detect the board and install the driver automatically.
Install the OmniRush
Driver Support Kit. Navigate to:
"C:\Program Files\Z-Firm LLC\OmniRush\Utilities\Brooktrout_Drivers\Brooktrout_TR114_and_Old_TruFax_PnP_Driver\"
run the Brooktrout_Support_Kit.exe
In the OmniRush Administrator, detect ports, configure and use.
Steps for PCI users on Windows 2000 and Windows XP:

'Specify a location'
Navigate to this
directory:
"C:\Program Files\Z-Firm LLC\OmniRush\Utilities\Brooktrout_Drivers\Brooktrout_TR114_and_Old_TruFax_PnP_Driver\"
Select the bfax.inf file in this directory.
Continue through the wizard
After the driver is
installed, run the Brooktrout_Support_Kit.exe
which is found in the same directory

Files\Z-Firm LLC\OmniRush\Utilities\Brooktrout_Drivers\Brooktrout_TR114_and_Old_TruFax_PnP_Driver\")
In the OmniRush Administrator, detect ports, configure and use.
Digital circuit users (TR114
Digital boards for T1) take
the next steps here.
ISDN users, the
next steps are here.
ISA
boards are not supported by FaxRush / OmniRush, and Z-Firm technical support
does not assist with any ISA related issues. The
legacy drivers will support these boards in Windows2000 systems, but Z-Firm
cannot help you make them work.
ISA boards will not work in Windows XP or Windows 2003. Please
do not waste your time trying.
Users with multiple Brooktrout boards, or other questions can refer to the extended Brooktrout Discussion in this help system.
If problems are encountered, see the troubleshooting document.
***WARNING: Steps contained here include registry and system file manipulation. These steps could lead to a corrupt and/or unuseable system. ***BACK UP SYSTEM BEFORE PROCEEDING***
Z-Firm provides these steps FYI only.
***Digital and DID installations should make a backup copy of the c:\winnt\bfax\ directory***
***PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK*** First, check the Windows Device Manager to see if the Brooktrout/BFAX device is present: Control Panel | System | Hardware | Device Manager Look for a '?' device, or interface that is clearly identified as Brooktrout or bfax. If found, uninstall the device.
Open regedit (Start | Run | Regedit) Delete the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Z-Firm LLC\Z-Firm Brooktrout Driver Delete the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Z-Firm Brooktrout Driver Delete the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\bfax Delete the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\faxinit
Using Explorer or other file system tool, delete the directory: c:\<windir>\bfax\ (usually c:\winnt\bfax\)
Search the c:\<windir>\ and all subdirectories for bfax.sys Delete if found
Reboot the system.
Reinstall Brooktrout drivers, as appropriate.
